Of all the projects we have undertaken this is one project that we are very excited to be associated with.
When we first became aware of this area, our first thought was to help fund education to help children and adults. We thought this would prepare them to be able to get access to better opportunities and be able to fish for themselves.
As we learned more about it, we realized we had no idea how tribals lived. People in these villages don’t even have 2 sets of clothes to change.
In winter, temperatures go down to 20 degrees F, it gets cold and they don’t have a blanket each to cover themselves. Some of them dig a hole in the ground and cover themselves up with leaves to stay warm.
It is important for these people to first realize that someone out that cares for them.
It is important for these people to be able to live each day without so much pain.
It is important for these people to know that the world has the wealth and the means to take care of their basic needs
It is important for mankind to do something, anything for these adults, children and old people.
It is important for mankind to ensure they live with dignity.
It costs only $2 to buy a dhoti (trousers for men) and $3 to buy a sari (dress for women) and $6 to buy a quilt for each person.
Our organization has pledged that before next winter, each of these people WILL have another pair of clothes and a quilt.
We have a doctor who visits these villages every month, providing them access to some basic services and awareness to healthcare.
These people still don’t have access to pain relief and cough syrup medications. They don’t have access to Band Aids just to cover open wounds.
This year our target is to provide these basic necessities to life and we will then focus on providing them access to education.
